Meet our Coaches
John Preston
Team Director Hey there I'm Coach John! The 2024 season will be my fourth year with the Mountain Lions and my seventh year mountain biking in Maryland. I initially got into coaching because Julianne Rohner-Preston was a student-athlete on the team and I was thrilled that NICA not only permits but encourages parents to become coaches! The reason I am still coaching is that it turns out I love helping student-athletes learn and grow as humans both on and off the bike and I look forward to doing that for many years to come. |
Dylan Klein
Level 2 Coach This will be my second season coaching with the Mountain Lions. I've been mountain biking all my life, and for fun I started doing some races with my son Cameron a few years ago. I feel so lucky to share my love of cycling with these student athletes who are the next generation of the sport! |
Alyssa Simms
Level 3 Coach I am a long-time multi-sport participant--mostly duathlons and triathlons astride my road bike. During Covid, my boys and I hit the Liberty Reservoir trails and learned about MICL from other riders we met along the way. We joined the Mt. Lions for the 2021 season and now I am a Level 3 NICA coach. I spend most of my time split between the new rider groups and the Lady Lions getting lost on the trails and riding to the mantra Happy Healthy & Whole. |
Stergios Papadakis
Level 2 Coach This will be my 7th year coaching with the Mountain Lions. I started in the first MICL season when my daughter joined the team, and I currently have two children on the team. I look forward to helping everyone grow stronger and faster on a bike, and have a good time on the trails. |

Level 2 Coach The 2024 season will be my third year with the Mountain Lions. I initially got into coaching because my son Luke was a student-athlete on the team, and becoming a coach allowed me to ride with my son and the other great kids and coaches on the team. Now that Luke graduated last season, I have decided to continue coaching with the team because I enjoy helping kids develop on and off the bike, and being part of the Mountain Lions is so much fun. |
Scott Vennard
Level 2 Coach Hello! I am Coach Scott. I’ve been mountain biking forever (because it’s awesome) and I’ve been a coaching with the Mountain Lions for 5 years (because the Mountain Lions are awesome too). My daughter Katie rides with the team (because she too is awesome), and this will be her fifth year as well. See you all in the woods! |
David Dollinger Few
Level 3 Coach David is in his fifth year as a coach with the Mountain Lions. His two sons ride with the team (one current and one alumni). This family's journey on the Mountain Lion's team is an outlet for their passion for the sport and their commitment to fostering talent and skill on the trails. David's story is not just about coaching but about building a community and a family within the sport. |
